Condensation forms when warm indoor air meets a cold surface. In homes with single glazing or older aluminium frames, that surface is the glass. In a Canterbury winter, it's cold enough to produce significant moisture buildup every day.
Over time, that moisture gets into window reveals, linings, and wall cavities. Mould follows. Modern double glazing with warm edge spacers and argon gas raises the temperature of the interior glass surface, which reduces the temperature differential and significantly cuts the amount of condensation produced.
Older window joinery, particularly original timber or early aluminium frames, was built to a different standard. The locking hardware is typically simple, the frames can be weakened by age and moisture, and the glazing is often single-paned and easy to break.
Modern aluminium windows are a meaningful step up. Our 800 Series awning and casement windows are engineered for structural strength, with multi-point locking options available and frames that are built to resist force rather than just hold glass in place. If your home still has its original windows, the security consideration alone is worth factoring into the decision.

Every window we supply is made to measure for your specific openings. There's no standard sizing, no adapters to make things fit, and no compromises on how the frame sits in the wall.
This matters particularly for older Canterbury homes (villas, bungalows, and character houses) where openings are rarely consistent and standard off-the-shelf joinery either doesn't fit or looks wrong against the original lines of the house.
Powder-coated aluminium is available across a wide colour range. Our team will work through finish options with you during the consultation so the result suits the home both inside and out.
Canterbury's climate places specific demands on joinery. The temperature swings between seasons are wide, the nor'wester puts real load on frames and seals, and parts of the region carry high wind zone requirements that standard systems aren't rated for.
Every system we specify is chosen with Canterbury's actual conditions in mind, not just a general New Zealand standard that may have been written with a more moderate climate in mind. Both the 300 and 800 Series are built for long-term performance here, not adapted from systems designed elsewhere.
